Our History!

The Ironmen began in 1990 as 'Cy-Fair Lacrosse' with only 11 athletes.

In October of 1998 the team voted on a new name and became the Cy-Fair Ironmen.

The team also chose the new team colors of Red, White & Blue

to encourage students from all the district schools to participate.

The Ironmen's first appearance in their new colors and with their new name was

In February of 1999 at the Texas A&M Tournament.

The Ironmen hosted tournaments in the 1990's; the original name being "The Turkey Shootout".  In 2000 they hosted "Millennium Madness"; in 2001 the tournament became known as the "Cy-Fair Fall Classic".

Memories of a former player:

I played with Cy-fair from the 1996-97 season to the 1998-99 season.  When I started the team was simply called Cy-Fair lacrosse, with no mascot.  The previous mascot (the bobcat) only represented Cy-Fair HS, not the entire school district that the team was supposed to represent. In addition to this the team was mainly, if not exclusively, made up Cy-Fair and Cy-Creek students which are traditionally rival schools, and neither side wanted to be represented by the other schools mascot.  So it was simply dropped.

They also experimented with jersey colors for the same reason.  The team colors for home and away were white and maroon (for Cy-Fair).  In the 95-96 season they went to maroon and blue to represent both schools.  Of course this really didn’t solve the problem due to the fact that it still only represented 2 of the schools in the school district.  At this point in time the team was made up of a core of 15-20 players.

Sometimes we would start a game with only one or two subs on the sideline and play “ironman” lacrosse.  To make it worse we also played two games in a row, one against the other squads varsity, and one against their JV team; against teams that were destined to play in DI of the THSLL (Kinkaid, Lamar, St Johns, Woodlands, Kingwood, Episcopal; We also played Memorial, Klein and Bellaire which are currently D II teams).  I remember playing in games where the only way to get a rest was to go to attack or D for a rest (depending on whether we were winning or losing).

At the end of the 97-98 season the team got together and talked about a name change, something that had been thought about for a while.  By a fairly sizable margin the team voted to change the name to the Cy-fair Ironmen over the Cy fair Warriors.  In addition to this it was decided to change the team colors to red, white and blue, which are colors that represent everyone.

As lacrosse grew in Texas so did the team.   Once the league (THSLL) split into two divisions (DI and DII) Cy-Fair became a powerhouse in the DII division.  It was nice to hear that Cy fair was not only going, but doing very well in the playoffs only 4 years after I left.  Mark Anderson, class of '99
